brooklyn house remodel
The owners of a three-story wood house in the Kensington neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY needed to make immediate improvements to the recently purchased house, including replacing a non-functioning kitchen, adding a ground-floor bathroom, and replacing the collapsing steps to the rear yard. Additional project goals included increasing daylight penetration into the kitchen and dining room, and maximizing access to the rear yard. The new work was executed in a "traditional" style to integrate with the original details remaining within the balance of the house.
Sustainable measures include:
re-use of salvaged framing lumber
repair of existing wood parquet flooring
recycled cotton insulation
FSC-certified flooring and cabinetry
recycled glass countertops
low-flow toilet
compact fluorescent lighting
low-voc paints and floor finish
