This project is the proposed renovation of a working "Dutch" barn for a small farm in New Paltz, NY, originally constructed in the late 1700's. The renovation incorporates processing and storage for produce, equipment storage, a commercial kitchen, a retail "farmstand" store, and top-floor residence. The south facade is to be opened and shaded to exploit passive solar heating without unwanted summer gain, while east/west and north facades remain relatively closed. A sunken root cellar is to be built to reduce refrigeration demands, and the original cupola is to be re-introduced for passive ventilation.
