Airplane rides have always exhilarated and terrified me. I love to look out the window, but the view is as disconcerting as it is endlessly fascinating. I can see too much from up there, in too much detail. Landforms seem as frozen time, humans imperceptibly tiny and yet somehow each car is perfectly visible on the freeway. Our impacts inescapable everywhere. The plane of course travels at immense speed yet seems to me motionless in empty space… it leaves me feeling unwillingly like a god. So, to keep things productive and counter the banality of what is happening within the cabin, I make photographs of what is happening outside.
